Celtic star plays key role as Sweden book ticket to 2026 World Cup

Great news for Celtic, thanks to Benjamin Nygren’s performance during the international break. The midfielder played a key role in Sweden’s 3-2 victory over Poland, which secured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The match was hard-fought, with Poland dominating for long stretches. Still, Sweden managed to respond and ultimately snatched the win in the final minutes thanks to a decisive goal from Viktor Gyökeres, who was once again instrumental in the Swedish attack.
Nygren’s dream comes true, and he will compete in the 2026 World Cup as a Celtic player.
Nygren started and played 81 minutes, delivering a very complete performance in midfield. He recorded 33 touches, made 6 defensive contributions, and completed 13 of 18 passes (62% accuracy). He was also crucial in attack, providing an assist for the second goal of the game, demonstrating his ability to influence both phases of play.
For Celtic, these kinds of performances reinforce Nygren’s value within the project and highlight his fascinating potential, especially considering he’s only 24 years old.
The player continues to establish himself as a key figure and arrives with confidence heading into the end of the season and, above all, looking ahead to a new campaign where the club will aim to compete at the highest level once again.
