Celtic youngsters in talks over permanent moves

Celtic are reportedly in talks to sell two young players to Partick Thistle FC.

Celtic are set to lose two highly rated youngsters permanently, with Partick Thistle in talks to sign Josh Clarke and Ben McPherson from the Scottish champions.

According to a Record Sport Q&A reported by Glasgow World, the Championship side are pushing to turn both current loan deals into full-time moves. Discussions are said to be ongoing as the January transfer window enters its final stretch.

Record Sport explained the situation as follows:

“I am told that Thistle are keen on signing Josh Clarke and Ben McPherson from Celtic on a permanent basis. Talks are on-going on that front with both loan players.”

The potential double exit comes at a time when Celtic supporters are already frustrated about the club’s recent record of bringing academy players through to the first team. Many prospects once tipped for senior roles are now scattered on loan, with little sign that they will break into the starting XI at Parkhead.

McPherson, 21, is a right-back who has represented Scotland at the youth level. However, his path is blocked by strong competition for his position.

Celtic already have Colby Donovan, Anthony Ralston, Julian Araujo, and injured Canada international Alistair Johnston on their books, leaving limited room for another option in that role.

Clarke, also 21, is a goalkeeper. He previously spent time in the academies of Chelsea and Bournemouth and has a unique youth international background, having represented England, Sweden, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland at various age groups. Many Celtic fans once hoped he would grow into a future number one, but that now appears unlikely.

With neither player close to the first team, a permanent move to Thistle could offer the regular football they need at this stage of their careers.
