The key Celtic performers in win away to Hibernian

Taking a look at the stand out performers from Sunday afternoon

On Sunday afternoon, Celtic pulled off an absolutely huge win in the Scottish Premiership title race, as they secured a hard fought 2-1 win away to Hibernian on match day 35 of the season.

It was certainly a grind, and fans feared for the worst when Hibs managed to sneak an equaliser in just before half time, despite having been reduced to ten men by that point, but the win is the most important thing.

So, who were the stand out performers who helped get Martin O’Neill’s side over the line.

Well, it would be amiss not to start with the players who contributed the goals. Daizen Maeda gave Celtic the lead not long before half time. Sure, Hibs scored not long after, but without that goal we are not talking about the win here.

Therefore, you have to give Maeda his dues. That said, the goal was more about the assist. On his first start since October, and only his third in the league all season, Alistair Johnston showed the quality the team have been missing with a superb ball, making it an impossible chance to miss. He will be so important in the run in.

Then, within two minutes of coming on in the second half, Kelechi Iheanacho put Celtic back into the lead, with a very composed finish that proved why he has played most of his career at a very high level.

Finally, it would be unfair not to single out Aaron Trusty for some praise, he consistently helped sniff out Hibs counter attacks, and he allowed the team to sustain pressure and territory.
