Celtic could have special final ahead of them

Celtic could be set to play a final dripping with narrative and niche storylines

Tomorrow afternoon, at 14:00 BST, Celtic will take on St Mirren at Hampden Park for a place in the Scottish Cup final.

This game has a particular narrative to it, with The Hoops looking to avenge the Scottish League Cup final back in the autumn, where St Mirren ran out as 3-1 winners.

Should Martin O’Neill’s side progress to the final, the final will have a special significance to it. Indeed, as they would be facing Dunfermline, whom are coached by Neil Lennon.

It will be the club’s first appearance in the Scottish Cup final since 2007, where they lost 1-0 to a Celtic side that included Lennon himself, captaining the team and playing for 66 minutes of the game.

Then there is of course the fact that the 54-year old former skipper played under the management of O’Neill at Celtic Park for five years, winning a number of trophies together as well as reaching the 2003 Europa League final.

So, if Celtic can progress tomorrow, a special final awaits. Aside from the above, it feels important to win the cup after last season’s agonising defeat on penalties to Aberdeen after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.
