Celtic failed to sign highly rated defender in January

Disappointing but not surprising news to hear

It was a very quiet January transfer window for Celtic this year when it comes to permanent arrivals.

Julian Araujo (AFC Bournemouth), Tomas Cvancara (Borussia Monchengladbach), Junior Adamu (Freiburg), Benjamin Arthur (Brentford) and Joel Mvuka (Lorient) were all signed on loan, with just free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as the sole permanent signing.

However, things could have been different. Indeed, as Polish journalist Piotr Kozminski is reporting that Celtic failed in a £3.5m move for Cracovia central defender Oskar Wojcik in the January transfer window.

He states that the defender is now attracting interest from sides in the Premier League and in Serie A.

Considering the interest from those two leagues, there is a reasonable chance that Celtic have missed out on a gem. No doubt the board were haggling over a fee and decided not to pay up for someone who will eventually be sold for a lot of money later down the line. Well, that’s just how it is sometimes.

Although Liam Scales and Aaron Trusty have been playing well of late, an extra body for depth would certainly have done the team no harm at all, especially a player who seems to have plenty of potential to grow and develop.
