Celtic forward completes loan exit to German club

Celtic have sent a struggling summer signing on loan to a 2. Bundesliga club for the rest of the season.

Celtic striker Shin Yamada has left the club on loan, joining German side Preußen Münster until the end of the season in search of regular minutes.

The Japanese forward moves to the 2. Bundesliga club after a difficult first spell in Glasgow, where he has made 12 appearances without a goal or assist since arriving from Kawasaki Frontale in the summer. Celtic confirmed the deal on social media, writing:

“Shin Yamada has joined Preußen Münster on loan until the end of the season. Best of luck, Shin!”

Preußen Münster are currently 15th in Germany’s second tier and will hope Yamada can add energy and movement to their attack as they battle to climb the table.

Yamada arrived with high expectations, following the same pathway as Reo Hatate from Kawasaki Frontale. However, he has struggled to make an impact in competitive games, largely featuring in short cameos and cup ties rather than as a regular starter.

Celtic still see potential in the 21-year-old and view this loan as a key step in his development rather than the end of his time at the club. His progress in Germany will help decide whether he can return in the summer and fight for a more important role in Martin O’Neill’s squad.

There is also a Celtic link in the 2. Bundesliga. Yamada could face fellow loanee Maik Nawrocki later in the season, with the defender on loan at Hannover and only recently back from injury.

For now, Yamada’s focus will be simple: get games, score goals, and show he can handle senior football in Europe. Celtic, meanwhile, continue to work on bringing in attacking reinforcements of their own before the January window closes.
