Celtic identify keeper as possible Kasper Schmeichel successor

Celtic are weighing up a move for a young Polish goalkeeper.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Polish goalkeeper Aleksander Bobek as concern grows over Kasper Schmeichel’s form and the lack of a convincing alternative before the transfer window closes.

The Celtic Way report that the club are considering bringing in further competition for Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, with scouts having looked closely at Bobek, who currently plays for LKS Lodz and is out of contract at the end of the season.

Many supporters now see a new goalkeeper as every bit as important as signings in other positions. Schmeichel’s struggles date back to last season and, despite his experience and status, he increasingly looks slow, short of sharpness, and past his peak. Opponents appear to be targeting him, and his presence is starting to feel like a weakness rather than a strength.

Celtic have already tried turning to Sinisalo. The Finnish international was handed his chance after calls from fans, but he failed to take it, and the coaching staff quickly returned to Schmeichel in goal. That has left the club in an awkward position, with neither option fully trusted.

Bobek would not arrive as a star name. The 21-year-old has built up a reasonable amount of first-team experience with LKS Lodz and has represented Poland at youth level. He fits the profile of a young, developing keeper who could grow with time, rather than an immediate, ready-made upgrade.

That is exactly what worries some fans. There is a feeling that Celtic need a proven, top-level goalkeeper to steady the defence, not another “project” signing who may or may not adapt. With time running out in the window, it is unclear whether the club will make a firm move for Bobek or look elsewhere.
