Celtic set to announce third January signing after loan deal agreed
Celtic are set to announce their third signing of the January transfer window, finalizing a loan deal for a Bundesliga forward.

Celtic are set to announce Junior Adamu as their third signing of the January window after a loan deal with SC Freiburg was effectively completed on Sunday night.
Respected German journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that a verbal agreement has been reached between the clubs, the player is already in place, and the move will be finalised on Monday. With the transfer deadline falling later that day, all that remains are the final formalities and the official unveiling.
Adamu, 24, will join Celtic on loan from Freiburg, who signed him from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023 for a reported €5 million. His time in the Bundesliga has not gone as planned. He has struggled for regular minutes and slipped down the pecking order, prompting the search for a move where he can play more often.

This season, he has made 18 appearances, scoring twice and providing one assist. Those numbers are modest and will not excite every supporter, but they also reflect a role built around short cameos rather than consistent starts. He has never really been trusted as the main focal point in Freiburg’s attack.
Adamu is mobile and comfortable across the front line, able to play through the middle or drift into wide areas. Alongside Tomas Cvancara, who has already scored on his home debut, Adamu offers a slightly different style and another option for Martin O’Neill.
Celtic are clearly prioritising immediate help for the rest of this season over permanent planning, with both deals being loans. That approach has frustrated many fans throughout the window, but it does at least give the manager more tools for the most important stretch of the season.
