Martin O’Neill reveals a crucial decision for Celtic in their last match

Following their crucial 3-1 victory against Motherwell, Celtic took a significant step towards closing the gap on Hearts, the Scottish Premiership leaders.

The result allowed the Glasgow side to reduce the difference in the standings and keep their title hopes alive in the final stretch of the season.

After the match, manager Martin O’Neill particularly praised the character of striker Tomáš Čvančara. The forward took the initiative to take the penalty that proved decisive in the comeback, a decision that even surprised the manager.

The Celtic Bhoys revealed that O’Neill confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a former Arsenal and Liverpool player, had initially been designated to take the penalty.

“I think he took the ball from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, believe it or not. That was big, because that’s what the game is all about. He took the penalty, obviously he was a bit overconfident after scoring on Sunday. But it was a great moment because, like many of us, we still have to win over the fans. So he took it, and it did him good. They helped set up Yang’s goal, the last goal, which gives you a bit of a cushion.”

Čvančara took responsibility and converted the penalty, changing the course of the game. For O’Neill, this action reflected the striker’s courage and confidence at a crucial moment in the match.

The manager praised the striker’s attitude and stressed that this competitive mentality will be key in the final stretch of the season.

With several crucial matches ahead, Celtic hope their striker will maintain this level and remain a key player in attack.

The team knows it will need all its players at their best if it wants to keep the pressure on Hearts and keep its title hopes alive in what promises to be an exciting end to the season.
